5 Things to do in Alabama

We will be visiting Alabama during our 13th week of travel. We have enjoyed visiting the southern states, and can’t wait to see Alabama also. We have had many responses to our social media posts as well as emails about great places to visit. We would love to see some of these recommendations as well as hear about YOUR favorite places in Alabama.

Gulf State Park

The Gulf State Park stretches along about half of the Alabama coastline by the Gulf of Mexico. From beautiful cabins, soft sandy beaches, and amazing fishing from the pier you will have enough to do for more than just a week.

Dauphin Island

There is so much to do near the bay, but Dauphin Island offers great experiences including Fort Gaines, and the Fort Morgan Historical Museum, as well as visit the Dauphin Island Sea Lab,

“Stop in Montgomery”

We are planning on taking this advice. We were told to see the Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery as well as the First White House of the Confederacy. We do love our history spots, and we look forward to seeing all that Montgomery has to offer! We would love more suggestions as well.

Cheaha State Park

We love the outdoors and doing things in nature. So we were referred to Cheaha State Park. It is on the East side of the state, a little more than halfway to the northern border. There are some great things to see including the Bunker Tower, as well as Devil’s Den Falls. I think we have some hiking to do in our future! Does anyone know of any other great hikes we could consider?

Desoto State Park

We have really enjoyed visiting the National and State parks so far. And Alabama has a variety of state parks. We were told to check out some of the falls at Desoto State Park as well.

  1. Nocollula Falls in Gadsden Alabama, Joe Wheeler Resort in Rogersville Alabama, Decatur Alabama there is the water park Point Mallard.

  2. Visit Lake Martin! Just north of Montgomery. 800 miles of beautiful wooded shoreline. You will want to call Lake Martin your home!

  3. Lake Martin and the Alexander City area is a great scenic visit. In the area, you could also visit Horseshoe Bend National Military Park, which is a short drive from Lake Martin and Mount Cheaha. In the Anniston area, you could rent bikes and ride mountain bike trails on Coldwater Mountain. You could also visit the Talladega Superspeedway. And Birmingham has great Civil Rights history.

  4. Hi! I met you at the space museum in Huntsville and your journey sounds amazing! Let me know if you need a place to park and some friends to play with when you get to Chicago!
